Have you ever wondered why some people seem to grow spiritually, even in tough times? The secret isn’t just discipline or knowledge—it’s Christ's energy or energeō, working inside them. Paul writes in Colossians 1:29, “To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy (energeō) Christ so powerfully works in me.” Paul knew that his strength and growth came from God, not from his own efforts.
One of the most powerful uses of energeō is in Ephesians 1:19-20, where Paul prays that believers would know “His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted (energeō) when He raised Christ from the dead.” Imagine—the same Holy Spirit energy that brought Jesus back to life is available to us! This isn’t just a metaphor; it’s a reality for every believer who trusts in God’s power.
So how do we let God's energeo released to us? It starts with surrender—admitting we can’t do it alone. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” As we yield to Him, His divine energy flows through us, producing fruit we could never grow on our own.
Reflect on these words by Hudson Taylor. “Do not have your concert first, and then tune your instrument afterwards. Begin the day with the Word of God and prayer, and get first of all into harmony with Him.”
Spiritual growth isn’t about striving; it’s about surrendering to the One who energizes us for every good work. When God’s energeō flows through us, we find ourselves growing in ways we never expected, becoming more like Christ from the inside out.
