Are you called to kingdom praying? Many say yes, but what if we're ill-equipped or naive to pitfalls? Paul warns: "Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his methods" (2 Cor. 2:11). Though about unforgiveness, it applies broadly to prayer.
In our kingdom series on exousia—Christ's delegated authority (Matt. 28:18)—a key pitfall is presumptuous praying in spiritual warfare. Without Holy Spirit direction and scriptural backing, prayers become reckless, ineffective, or harmful. True kingdom prayer aligns with God's will, not our impulses.
Presumptuous praying assumes authority without confirmation, leading to defeat. Recall the sons of Sceva (Acts 19:13-16), who tried exorcism without relationship to Jesus—demons overpowered them. Bold declarations against strongholds, driven by emotion or pride, operate in the flesh (Rom. 8:6), inviting resistance, exhaustion, doubt, or deception. This undermines exousia, turning decrees into empty words.
Counter this by prioritizing God's guidance. Our weapons are mighty through Him (2 Cor. 10:4). Dive into Scripture like Eph. 6:10-18 for armor. Pray: "Lord, reveal Your strategy" (James 4:7). Exousia is under Christ's lordship (John 5:19). Before interceding, fast and listen for insight. The Spirit guides (John 16:13); seek confirmation via Word, prophecy, or dreams. Like Daniel's 21-day persistence (Dan. 10:12-13), active seeking builds discernment.
Start with Humility: Confess sins, affirm God's sovereignty, wait on the Spirit. Model after Daniel (Dan. 10).
Immerse in the Word: Meditate daily on Eph. 6 or Ps. 91; journal insights.
Practice Listening Prayer: Set quiet time; ask: "Is this my battle?" Track in a journal.
Seek Counsel: Consult prayer partners or mentors; test spirits (1 John 4:1); fast together.
Start Small: Address personal issues first, like anxiety, by seeking root causes before binding spirits.
Evaluate: Reflect post-prayer: Did it align with Scripture? What fruit followed? Adjust.
Presumptuous praying stalls growth and kingdom advance. By seeking Spirit and Word first, we unlock exousia's power for victory. This fosters intimacy with God and effective prayer, honoring His order for lasting fruit.
