Let's be honest—prayer can feel complicated sometimes. You might find yourself wondering if you're doing it "right" or if there's more to it than what happens during Sunday service. If you've ever felt this way, you're not alone.
Here's something that might surprise you: there are actually two distinct ways we can approach prayer, and understanding the difference could completely transform how you connect with God.
Most of us are familiar with what I call "church praying." This is the prayer that happens naturally in our everyday Christian walk—those moments during worship when you're asking God to heal your friend's mom, help you through a tough work situation, or simply saying thanks for the good things in your life.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this kind of prayer. In fact, it's beautiful and necessary! These prayers strengthen your relationship with God and create bonds within your church family. They're the foundation of spiritual growth, and honestly, we need more of them, not less.
Now, here's where things get interesting. There's another dimension of prayer that many of us haven't fully explored—what I call "Kingdom praying."
Think about it this way: What if your prayers could actually partner with God to change entire communities, influence governments, and bring real transformation to broken systems? What if prayer wasn't just about getting through your day, but about actively participating in God's plan to restore everything that's wrong with our world.
That's Kingdom praying.
Instead of just reacting to problems as they come up, Kingdom praying gets ahead of them. It's praying with the confidence that comes from knowing God's promises, and it's praying with a vision for what God wants to accomplish on a much bigger scale.
When you pray this way, you're not just asking God to fix things—you're joining Him in the work of bringing heaven to earth, one prayer at a time.
Here's the thing: both types of prayer matter. Your personal needs and your church family's concerns are important to God. But when you add Kingdom praying to the mix, something powerful happens. You start seeing your life and your prayers as part of something much bigger than yourself.
You begin to pray with authority because you understand that God has given you a role in His mission. You start breaking through spiritual barriers that have held back your community for years. You become someone who doesn't just survive life's challenges but actually helps transform them.
So here's my challenge for you: Take a look at your prayer life this week. Are you only praying about the immediate stuff—your job, your health, your family's needs? Those prayers are important, so keep praying them!
But what if you also started praying bigger prayers? What if you began asking God to show you how to pray for your city, your nation, or the global issues that break His heart?
Try it. Start small if you need to, but start somewhere. Partner with God in Kingdom praying, and watch how it changes not just the world around you, but your own heart as well.
The Kingdom of God is here, and He's inviting you to help advance it—one prayer at a time.
